Hair Donation in Bangladesh: The Complete Guide
Hair donation means giving your own long hair so it can be made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair during cancer treatment. In Bangladesh, hair donation is organised by Cancer CARE Bangladesh (CCB), a youth-led nonprofit founded on 13 December 2020. It is the country's pioneering dedicated hair donation organisation: since 2020, 228 donors from 37 districts across all 8 divisions have donated their hair, and the wigs made from that hair are given to cancer patients completely free.

Who can donate hair?
Anyone with healthy hair that is 12 to 15 inches long can donate. There is no fee, and donors take part from all over Bangladesh by courier, so you do not need to travel to Dhaka.
Hair donation rules
- Hair must be healthy and 12 to 15 inches long (at least 12 inches).
- Wash the hair and let it dry fully before cutting.
- Tie the hair in a braid or with a rubber band before cutting, so the strands stay together in one bundle.
- Cut above the band, seal the bundle in a ziplock bag, and send it by courier.
How to donate: step by step
- Sign up on the website. You receive a Digital Donor Card with your own donor ID and QR code.
- Read the rules in your Donation Journey page and prepare your hair as above.
- Cut and pack the hair, then mark the step done in your journey.
- Courier the hair to the organisation's Dhaka address (shown inside your journey) and add the courier name and tracking number.
- Confirmation: when the team receives your hair, your journey shows Confirmed and your donation certificate unlocks for download. Every certificate carries a BDHDC number and can be verified by anyone on the website.

What happens to donated hair?
Donated hair is pooled. One wig needs hair from about 9 to 10 donors, because strands are sorted and matched, and about 50 percent of strands are rejected during sorting and processing for being too short or damaged. Making one wig takes about a month or more. This is also why no honest organisation can promise that your exact hair will reach one named patient: what is guaranteed is that donated hair is used for free wigs for cancer patients, and that it is never sold.
Why donate hair?
For many cancer patients, losing their hair is the most visible and painful part of treatment. A real-hair wig gives immediate confidence and mental support while treatment continues. Hair donation lets anyone help in a big way without money: your hair grows back; for a patient, your gift arrives exactly when it is needed most.
